Officer Adam Cox was a corrections officer at the Federal Holding Facility in Los Angeles, California.

Biography[]

Cox's duties at the facility, where he had worked for seven years, included monitoring the inmates during meals. Several times, he had had to break up fights between Big Ferg, an Aryan Bloc member awaiting trial on weapons charges, and the other, predominantly black and Latino inmates who would target him. These incidents had caused Cox to develop a grudging respect for Ferg.

Cox was married to a woman named Viv. At the time of his death, he had been planning to finish the weather stripping on their garage door.

He was the only official inside the Federal Holding Facility who knew about Jack Bauer's undercover operation, which required him to gain Emil Ramirez's trust and exploit his connections to locate the anarchist Zapata. (Chaos Theory)

Death[]

One night three weeks into Jack's sentence, Cox shouted to Jack Bauer in the prison's community hall that he had a phone call.

Half an hour later, Cox broke up a fight in the shower between Bauer and three MS-13 gang members. While escorting Jack back to his cell, he warned him to watch his back, knowing the gang's reputation for brutality.

At 9:19pm, Cox was on meal duty, looking forward to getting off work and "putting his feet up in front of SportsCenter." When a fight broke out between Ferg and a new inmate, Cox intervened, only to be stabbed repeatedly and killed by Ferg, who whispered that it was "just business."

Cox's murder had been orchestrated by Christopher Henderson, who also arranged for the prison warden and Ryan Chappelle, Jack's other two contacts, to be taken out of commission simultaneously. (Chaos Theory)
