Alexis Drazen and his brother, Andre Drazen, were the sons of Victor Drazen, who was involved in ethnic cleansing in Kosovo under Slobodan Milošević. Alexis went to the United States to aid in the plan to assassinate Senator David Palmer due to Palmer's involvement in Operation Nightfall. He was trained in the military in the city of Belgrade.

Alexis was born on January 24, 1967, in Kragujevac, Serbia. He graduated from Zagreb University (the same university which Mishko Suba attended), and then spent two years on a fellowship studying in the United States. Alexis joined the Serb Democracy Party in 1990, and then served in the Serbian Army between 1993 and 1999. He was Serbian Orthodox and a member of the Serbian Democratic Union.
Alexis worked with his brother Andre and father in a conspiracy to avenge the death of his mother and sister during Operation Nightfall. Alexis had a PDA with numerous detailed files on all the key players in the Drazens' "Eye for an Eye" plan, in which he and Andre rescue their father, kill Senator David Palmer. and frame Jack Bauer for the murder for their involvement in Nightfall.
About a month before Day 1, Alexis selected and started an affair with Elizabeth Nash, a member of Palmer's advance team, who contantly worked closely with Palmer. Through her, Alexis was able to track Palmer's movements.

Alexis came out from hiding to eliminate Kevin Carroll, a mercenary hired by Ira Gaines, and blew up a building with Carroll's remaining henchmen inside. Shortly after his arrival in the United States, Alexis and his compatriots Jovan Myovic and Mishko Suba were identified by CTU to be the three new shooters who threatened David Palmer.
Later, Alexis went to the hotel where Senator David Palmer was working from to keep a meeting he had with Elizabeth Nash at 4:30pm. After seeing a picture of Alexis in a group of terrorist photos presented by Aaron Pierce, Elizabeth realized that he was not who he appeared to be and told Palmer, who contacted CTU. Elizabeth was taken to CTU, where Jack convinced her to help them plant a homing device on Alexis. She arrived back at the hotel half an hour before the meeting and their location, Room 1243, was bugged with cameras, which Jack observed from an opposite room, planning to run in if Alexis tried anything.
Elizabeth successfully managed to plant the tracker in Alexis' wallet. However, she did not fulfill the second part of the plan, which was to answer a call from Jack and escape the room. Alexis planned to kill Elizabeth after the meeting, but everybody's plans went awry when Nash stabbed him. Her attack left Alexis close to death and unable to meet with Alan Morgan as he had planned. He was supposed to meet Alan at the California Plaza and pay him $50,000 for shutting off a section of a power grid, 26-GG, in Saugus which is where his father was being held. Alexis was rushed to a hospital, and he was kept alive. George Mason went to visit him there, but was unable to interrogate him as he was still too injured from the stabbing.
Victor Drazen learnt that Alexis was still alive from Jack Bauer whom he had captive, and he decided to exchange Jack for Alexis. The trade went down successfully, but just as Victor and Andre got to see Alexis, he died from his injuries. At 10:09pm Alexis died.
