Carl Edwards (born August 15, 1979; age 44) played Jim Hill in Day 5 of 24. He is a professional stock car racing driver in NASCAR.
Biography and career
Carl Edwards was born in Columbia, Missouri. He graduated from Rock Bridge High School in 1997. Edwards attended the University of Missouri to study engineering, but after three semesters, he dropped out to pursued his career goals in racing. Prior to becoming a full-time driver, Edwards was also working as a substitute teacher.
Edwards, a driver for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, began his career with Roush Racing in 2003 and began winning in the Craftsman Truck Series quickly. In 2004, after winning and performing well, and upon the departure of Jeff Burton over sponsorship issues, took over the #99 Ford Taurus and ran the final 14 races in 2004.
In his second season in the Nextel Cup Series with three alternating primary sponsors (Office Depot, Scotts Miracle-Gro, and World Financial Group), he won four races, including two in the playoffs, and finished tied for second in points to his teammate Greg Biffle, who won the tiebreaker (wins).
Edwards struggled in 2006 and missed the playoffs, and is in his fourth season with the #99 Office Depot Ford Fusion in the Nextel Cup Series as a member of Roush Fenway Racing, after John Henry of Fenway Sports Group purchased considerable interest in the Roush team. In 2015, he joined Joe Gibbs Racing.
Edwards has won in NASCAR's three national series, and is known for a backflip off of the window sill of his car or truck whenever he wins a race.

Edwards was a fan of the show and was on the set of 24 during the week of a race at California Speedway. When touring the set he was asked if he wanted to appear on the show and Carl said he would love to. He appeared in the role of Jim Hill during Season 5. Hill was a member of the Department of Homeland Security.
