Derek Huxley was the son of Diane Huxley. He lived in Mojave, California with his mother and grew a father/son-type relationship with Jack Bauer due to the events that took place in Day 5.

[edit] Before Day 5
Before the events that took place in Day 5, Frank Flynn moved into an apartment owned by Diane Huxley. When Flynn began a romantic relationship with Diane, Derek didn't approve of it. He was cleary over-protective of his mother and didn't approve of Frank as a father figure.

After it was announced that President David Palmer was assassinated, Frank Flynn had breakfast with Derek and Diane. When Derek interrogated Frank about a past job, he was caught in a lie and asked to be execused from the table. Diane apologized to Frank for his behavior, while Frank claimed he understood Derek's actions. Diane felt the best thing her son needed was a man around the house.
When Frank left the house and went to get access to a helicopter, Derek followed him. After Frank punched out a worker, Derek accidentally made a noise and Frank discovered him. Fearing that Derek would go to the police, Frank forced Derek to get into the helicopter. Frank then called Diane and asked her to start driving to Los Angeles, in order to pick-up Derek. Frank then revealed that he is Jack Bauer, someone that isn't supposed to be alive.
Jack and Derek arrived at an oil refinery to meet up with Chloe O'Brian. When armed men arrived, Jack ordered Derek and Chloe to get in the helicopter. When the helicopter wasn't able to get enough speed, Jack had Chloe take Derek into the refinery. After killing most of the armed men, Jack arrived in the refinery and shot Conrad Haas. Hearing a gun shot, Chloe quickly acted and shot Haas twice in the chest. Jack instructed her to stop and interrogated him.
After Jack learned that Haas was the man who killed President Palmer, he shot and killed him. Derek was in a state of shock and later accompanied Jack and Chloe to the penthouse apartment of Wayne Palmer. With Jack being set up for Palmer's murder, FBI surrounded the place and demanded for Jack to surrender. Chloe managed to create a diversion, while Jack and Derek escaped and got a new car.
Jack passed Derek over to Diane at the Ontario Airport, but Derek noticed armed men entering the airport. In an attempt to warn Jack, Derek left his mother's car and ran into the airport. After getting into the airport, an explosion occured and the armed men took the airport hostage. Their demands were for President Charles Logan to call off the terrorist treaty signing with President Yuri Suvarov, or he would kill a hostage every 15 minutes.
After killing a hostage on live TV, Anton Beresch grabbed Derek and told the American public he would die if President Logan didn't make an announcement. When Logan refused to call off the signing, Beresch was planning on killing Derek. However, he was interrupted when one of his men's explosive vests automatically went off.
After getting a call from James Nathanson, Beresch learned that CTU Los Angeles had a man working inside. Beresch threatened to kill Derek if Jack Bauer wouldn't capitulate. Jack had no choice and he surrendered, saving Derek's life in the process. Though Beresch used Bauer to manipulate CTU's rescue operation, Lynn McGill was able to identify a distress code in Bauer's phone call, and CTU successfully rescued the hostage.
After being reunited, Derek and Diane were brought back to CTU by Curtis Manning. After being debriefed, Derek and Diane thanked Jack for all his help. Derek and Diane then left CTU and went back home.
