Background information and notes

The following is based on the account of Operation Nightfall from Findings at CTU, which was later retconned in 24: Nightfall.

Bauer chose Shelton as his second-in-command for Operation Nightfall, a mission to assassinate Yugoslavian military leader Victor Drazen at his compound in Đakovica. The team also included weapons officer Brice Gardener, comm officer Haj Illijec, medic Gary Graham, combat controller Roger Voss, and intelligence specialist Fred Peltzer. After reactivation and briefing at Fort Bragg, the team flew to Aviano Air Base to deploy to Kosovo aboard an MC-130 Combat Talon,

After infiltration, Anvil Team followed the Erenik River until they reached the road to the manor compound where Drazen was supposedly hiding out. Shelton broke off with Graham and Gardener to circle around and neutralize the facility's antiaircraft guns. After this was done and Hammer One destroyed the compound, however, Shelton's team was ambushed by five of Drazen's men, who had acquired the team's radio frequency through unknown means and used it to isolate the individual team members. Shelton and the other two men were killed in the ensuing firefight. (Findings at CTU)

End of information based on Findings at CTU.
