Fareed, his older brother Asad, and his his mother were held captive in order to persuade Syed Ali to reveal the location of a nuclear bomb.
Jack Bauer made it appear that Asad was killed, and threatened to kill Fareed as well if Syed didn't cooperate. When Syed gave up the bomb's location, Fareed and his family were released. ("7:00pm-8:00pm")
