Fiber Optics were a kind of technology utilized by CTU during several criminal surveillance operations.

[edit] Day 1

CTU Los Angeles used fiber optics for surveillance when a member of Senator Palmer's advance team, Elizabeth Nash, agreed to plant a tracking device on Alexis Drazen. CTU agents rigged Room 1242 of the Senator's hotel with fiber optics and set up viewing monitors in the room across the hall.

[edit] Day 3

Chase Edmunds used fiber optics to watch Jack Bauer and Ramon Salazar play Russian roulette in the prison during the riot.

[edit] Day 7

The FBI used fiber optics to watch the interior of Hamid Al-Zarian's apartment, who was being held hostage by one of Tony Almeida's operatives. Agent Reed handled the optics camera.

[edit] Background information and notes

  • Fiber optics are long, hollow, thin, transparent fibers made of glass that are used to transmit light over a distance. The glass fibers, which are approximately the diameter of human hairs, are coated in two layers of plastic, which create a perfect mirror inside the fiber.
