This article's subject relates to Season 1 of 24.
For others with the same name, see Ray.

Ray was a Department of Defense employee at the top secret Class Three Detention Center in Saugus, which was operated by Warden Mark DeSalvo during Day 1.

Day 1[]

Ray was a member of the prison staff consisting of three guards and three civilians working for Warden DeSalvo. Jack Bauer discovered the prison, was brought in, and told the staff about an imminent threat posed by terrorists at 7:20pm. At that precise time, an unidentified prisoner was scheduled to be transferred to the prison. Bauer convinced DeSalvo to arm the three civilians working there and to accompany them and the three guards during the transfer, to frighten the terrorists outside. Ray and all seven others went outside, and Bauer's ruse worked. Harris, the leader of a team of Serbian ex-military commandos hired by Andre Drazen, saw the extra security and refused to rescue the prisoner, Victor Drazen, during the transfer. The prison staff was joined by two men accompanying Victor from the chopper. ("7:00pm-8:00pm")

Andre, Harris, and their men activated a contingency plan: they knocked out the power to the prison and blew the door in with explosives. Ray and Lawrence were soon among the first staff members killed during the terrorist raid. DeSalvo repeatedly radioed both of them, but neither man responded. Eventually, the entire staff was wiped out, Bauer was taken prisoner, and Victor was rescued by his son and the Serb commandos. ("8:00pm-9:00pm")

Background information and notes[]

S1ep20 drazen transfer

Ray, in body armor, somewhere among the prison staff

  • Besides Warden DeSalvo and three trained guards, the prison also contained two technicians and a maintenance man (three civilians who "never fired a weapon" before). It was not specified if Ray was one of the original guards, one of the civilians that received armor and weapons later, or even less likely: one of the pair of men that accompanied Drazen from the chopper. The name "Ray" was only mentioned in "Day 1: 8:00pm-9:00pm."
  • Since all seven of the prison staff were visible with Bauer during the transfer of Victor at 7:20pm, Ray definitely appeared physically in the "7:00pm-8:00pm" episode. But it is impossible to tell which man he was. Also, he may have been one of the corpses viewed by Agent Drake in the following episode, but this cannot be verified.
