The flight crew was given permission to take off from Reagan National from Northeast Air Traffic ControllerPhil. As the plane prepared to take off, one flight attendant gave the rehearsed speech about airline safety. Roughly an hour later, as the plane approached JFK, the plane was given new landing orders by Tony Almeida and Masters, who were part of a group of terrorists that hacked the airline communications system. The crew trusted the new orders, unaware of the threat, and as they landed through the fog, they approached Sunrise International passenger Flight 35 on the tarmac. Almeida, at the last moment, ordered the pilot to pull up, and he did. The near-collision was a demonstration designed to show the US government that the terrorists wielded great power. None aboard the plane were harmed.
