Geoffrey Michael Pierson (born June 16, 1949; age 74) played Senator and later President John Keeler during Season 3 and Season 4 of 24.

Biography and career[]

Geoff Pierson was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He is the son of Helen and Roy J. Pierson, an entrepreneur and founder of the major steel corporation Feralloy. After graduating from high school, Pierson attended Fordham University in New York, where he earned a Bachelors Degree. After that, he went on to the Yale School of Drama where he earned his Masters in 1980.

Before appearing on 24, Pierson had regular roles in the FOX sitcoms Unhappily Ever After and That 80's Show, and played Grace's ex-husband Jimmy on the series Grace Under Fire (working with Penny Johnson Jerald in one episode). Pierson also played a U.S. senator (albeit a Democratic one) on The West Wing and portrayed the Vice President of the United States in the movie Get Smart.

Since 24, Pierson has appeared on The Mentalist (appearing with his 24 Vice President Gregory Itzin), and Dexter as Captain Tom Matthews (with Yvonne Strahovski and Julian Sands). He also appeared in the film Changeling (with Colm Feore, Ryan Cutrona, Colby French, and Jon Voight's daughter Angelina), and he had a recurring role in the third and fourth seasons of Castle (with Stana Katic and Penny Johnson Jerald).

Filming Season 4 of the show

Pierson played the role of John Keeler during Seasons 3 and 4 of 24. His character was David Palmer's political rival, and eventual successor as President of the United States. Pierson appeared in a total of 20 episodes, and was credited as a guest star.

Pierson's character was originally intended to die in the attack on Air Force One, though FOX executives apparently balked at the idea of killing off the President, so he was kept alive but critically injured. Keeler's fate was ultimately left unknown in-universe.
