The Cyprus recording was potential evidence that terrorist Syed Ali conspired with leaders of 3 Middle Eastern countries. Once this recording found its way to CTU, Director Tony Almeida had the information verified with Agent Gibson. Gibson found no reason to believe that the Cyprus audio was not authentic.
