Gina Torres

Gina Torres (born April 25, 1969; age 54) played Julia Milliken during Season 3 of 24.

Biography and career

Gina Torres was born at the Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in Manhattan, New York. She is the youngest of three children. Her family lived briefly in Washington Heights before moving to The Bronx. Both her parents are of Cuban descent. Torres began singing at an early age, and attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music. Although she was accepted to several colleges, she could not afford them and decided to become a performer instead.

Torres began her acting career in 1992, appearing in an episode of Unnatural Pursuits, along with Keith Szarabajka. She was also a regular on the sci-fi series Cleopatra 2525 and Firefly (which featured guest appearances by Gregory Itzin, Mark Sheppard, Gregg Henry, and Daniel Bess) and its big-screen followup Serenity. Other TV credits include recurring and guest starring roles on shows such as Angel, The Shield (with Benito Martinez), and The Unit (with Dennis Haysbert, Max Martini and Lothaire Bluteau). From 2006 to 2007, she was a series regular on the popular short-lived comedy-action series Standoff (with Michael Cudlitz).

Aside of television, Torres' movie credits include the 2003 The Matrix sequels (with Harry Lennix and David Kilde) and the 2006 film Jam (with Christopher Amitrano). Other films in which she has appeared are Mr. Sophistication (also with Lennix), Don't Let Me Drown (with Ricardo Chavira), and The Substance of Fire (with Gil Bellows). In recent years, she has been a regular in Hannibal (with Eddie Izzard) and Suits.

Torres married fellow actor Laurence Fishburne in 2002.
