IPSec was an internet protocol for securing communications.
Both Michelle Dessler and Chloe O'Brian built IPSec architecture during their working careers (Fox.com profiles).
At the beginning of Day 1, Jack Bauer asked Jamey Farrell to retrieve his daughter's e-mail password. She loaded up a "log-in" module from her "ip_sec.div" file, using it to recover three of Kim Bauer's passwords. ("Day 1: 12:00am-1:00am")
Background information and notes[]
- IPSec stands for "Internet Protocol Security". It refers to securing Internet Protocol communications by authenticating and encrypting IP packets of a communication session.
- It is likely that Michelle created the system either at one of the several CTU divisions that she worked at, or at either DARPA or the National Institute of Standards & Technology, the two other organizations she worked for before CTU.
- Similarly, Chloe likely wrote IPSec while at CTU Los Angeles.
