Biography and career Edit
J. Scott Shonka was born in Cheverly, Maryland but grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota. Before being an actor, he served in the military for more than 10 years. Shonka graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1988 with a Bachelor's degree in General Engineering. He became a qualified Airborne and Ranger, and served in Operation Desert Storm in Iraq.
After his time in the military, Shonka moved to Los Angeles in 1994. He has been working as a professional actor since 1996, and has trained with Milton Katselas, Jeffrey Tambor, and others at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Shonka also received Shakespeare training from Alfred Molina, and improvisation skills from Thomas G. Waites.
During his acting career, Shonka has appeared in films like The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Air Force One (with Wendy Crewson, Xander Berkeley, and Jurgen Prochnow), and The Perfect Storm (with John Hawkes, Cherry Jones, and Bob Gunton). He has also appeared in TV shows like JAG, Line of Fire (with Leslie Hope, Michael Irby, and Brian Goodman), CSI: NY, Commander in Chief (with Harry Lennix, Ever Carradine, and Anthony Azizi), and The Bathroom Diaries.
Aside of acting, Shonka also works as a personal trainer.
