Johnathan McClain played Derek Watts during Season 7 of 24.

Biography and career

McClain was born and raised in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. When he was 21 years old, he moved to Chicago where he wrote and began performing the one-man show Like It Is. The show was a critical success and McClain moved the show to New York.

While in New York, McClain also started performing Off-Broadway, as well as in other stages around the country. He is also a writer and contributor to the Public Radio International series Fair Game. McClain's first credited appearance in a feature film was in the 1999 film Mystic Nights and Pirate Fights. In 2002, he appeared in the film Far from Heaven, with Dennis Haysbert and Michael Gaston.

Aside of films, McClain is mostly known for his appearance in numerous TV shows. Some of the shows in which he has appeared are Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, CSI: Miami (with Dameon Clarke), Medium (with Shawn Doyle), The Glades (with Carlos Gomez), Retired at 35, Mad Men, Bizaardvark (with Tom Choi), and Trial & Error (with Bob Gunton).

McClain is also an accomplished poet. He is an active participant in Slam Poetry contests, winning several of them around the country.

Role on 24

McClain played the role of Derek Watts, the Chief of Staff of Vice-President Mitchell Hayworth, during Season 7. He appeared in a total of two episodes and was credited as a guest star.
