Kimberly "Kim" Bauer, the daughter of Jack and Teri Bauer, was a target of terrorists during Day 1 because of her relation to Jack. On Day 2, she was the au pair for a young girl whose father turned homicidal. By Day 3 she worked as an intelligence agent at CTU Los Angeles, where she met Chase Edmunds and eventually left CTU with Chase to start a life. The relationship did not last, and after she was made to believe that her father was killed, she began to date a psychiatrist named Barry Landes. She did not forgive her father for the story of his death.

[edit] Before Cat's Claw
Kim Bauer was born sixteen years before Day 1, the only child of Jack and Teri Bauer. Her father was a federal agent, and the job caused a lot of stress on her parents' marriage.
[edit] Cat's Claw
Kim Bauer attended a G8 protest as a member of Teen Green, a student environmental group. During the rally, she was subtly infected with the natural strain of Cat's Claw by a terrorist posing as an interviewing news reporter, subsequently leading Kim to develop feverish symptoms a few hours later. Her father, Jack Bauer, was coerced by Bernard Copeland into refraining from investigating the day's potential terrorist threat. In exchange, he would get the vaccine to Kim's virus. In an effort to not stir a panic, Kim was never alerted about the virus within her body, and simply went home to her mother to rest, believing it was only a fever. Jack ultimately obtained a vial of the vaccine, went home, and injected her with the cure as she slept, unaware.
[edit] After Cat's Claw
Kim attended Santa Monica High School with her best friend Janet York. She dated Vincent O'Brien for a time, although her father clearly distrusted him. During her sophomore year, Jack was asked by Teri to move out of the house and Kim blamed her mother for the separation. Six months later, Jack moved back in, but Kim remained resentful towards Teri.
[edit] Day Zero
When Teri called Jack at CTU at around 11:27 pm, Jack asked to talk to Kim, but when Teri offered the phone to her she refused to speak to him. Teri said that Kim was having a hard time dealing with the separation.
[edit] After Day Zero
Kim spent a weekend in Cambria, California shortly before Day 1.
[edit] Day 1
Kim Bauer snuck out of the house a little after midnight so she could meet up with a friend, Janet York. As the two girls met up with two boys, Dan Mounts and Rick Allen, they kidnapped the girls and took Kim to Ira Gaines. Ira used this as leverage against her father, Jack Bauer, to force him to help assassinate David Palmer. Each time as she seemed to escape to safety, she was put in danger's way once more.
- For more information, see Kim Bauer on Day 1.
[edit] After Day 1
After her mother's death, Kim distanced herself from her father as she felt seeing him was a constant reminder of her mother which was too painful for her. Kim eventually dropped out of high school and became a live-in nanny. She was responsible for taking care of Megan Matheson, the daughter of Teri's friend and colleague, Carla Matheson.
[edit] Day 2
Kim was outside with Megan when she ran into her father. Kim tried to avoid Jack and she told him she wasn't ready to see him. When Kim brought Megan back to Carla's home, she became uncomfortable when Gary began to eye her sexually. Kim and Megan later overheard Gary physically abusing Carla but he claimed she fell down the stairs. When Megan began to cry, Kim attempted to comfort her, but Gary knocked her down, injuring his own daughter in the process.
While Gary took a phone call, Kim and Megan snuck out of her bedroom. Kim went to see how Carla was, and she gave Kim her car keys and told her to take Megan away. However, Gary was able to track Kim with his security system. Gary trapped Kim and his daughter in an alley, but they were able to escape and Megan hid under some boxes whilst Kim attempted to call the authorities, but Gary arrived and prevented her from doing so. Kim fought him off and she eventually knocked him unconscious, but Megan was nowhere to be seen.
Kim eventually found Megan on the street and she assured her that everything would be all right. Kim called Jack from a payphone but he was unable to speak to her as he normally would as he was undercover with Wald's crew. Kim then phoned Tony Almeida at CTU and told him about the situation she was in. Tony told her to come to CTU. However, an explosion occured at CTU just as Kim and Megan arrived. Despite not being in the main building during the explosion, Megan seized and was rushed to hospital.
After arriving at the hospital, the doctors informed Kim that Megan received a blow to the head and multiple body injuries had been discoverd, including several broken fingers that had never been treated. After the doctor realized Megan might have suffered from child abuse, the police were informed of the situation. Though Carla initially refused to admit her husband's abuse, she admitted to Kim that Gary often hit Megan.
While Kim waited for Carla to arrive at the hospital, she was confronted by Gary. Gary threatened to turn Kim into the authorities and tell them that she kidnapped Megan and was responsible for Megan's injuries. Gary also told Kim that Carla would back up his accusations. Gary offered Kim the option to run and she took it, contacting her father afterword. When Jack told Kim a nuclear bomb would go off in LA during the day, Kim called her boyfriend Miguel and asked him to help her get Megan and escape from the city.
Miguel paged Gary in order to keep him out of his daughter's room so that Kim could get Megan out of the hospital. Kim convinced Megan that it would be best if she went with her, and the two of them left her room. Later, Gary realized that Kim had taken his daughter so he alarmed hospital security of the situation. While Kim and Megan hid in an exam room, Miguel created a diversion so they could escape. Kim and Megan were able to escape, but Gary spotted them and physically attacked Kim. Miguel arrived and knocked Gary out unconscious, he then took Gary's car keys and stole his car.
Miguel and Kim headed towards Kim's Aunt Carol's house, while Megan slept in the back seat of the car. They were pulled over for speeding by Officer Brown and he asked Miguel for his license and registration. Kim explained that it was her boss' car and the officer decided to give them a warning. However, he noticed that blood was dripping from the trunk. Officer Brown opened the trunk and saw a corpse. Kim was shocked to see Carla's dead body and she told Megan to stay in the car, while Brown arrested Kim and Miguel.
Kim and Miguel tried to explain to the officer about the situation and Kim gave him the number of CTU. When Officer Brown was unable to get into contact with the federal authorities, he became suspicious something was up. After having arrived at the police station, Kim came into contact with Jack and he arranged for her to be picked up. When Officer Brown confronted Kim about her not wanting Megan in Los Angeles, she revealed to him the situation about the nuclear bomb.
Kim is told that she and Miguel were to be transfered to central booking in downtown Los Angeles, as them being suspects in a murder overruled CTU's order for them to be released. Megan's aunt, Emily arrived at the police station, and was give custody of the girl. Since Emily's house was in Santa Barbara, Kim was relieved she would be out of the bomb's range. While being pushed into the police squad car, Miguel tried to resist arrest and he gained access to a lighter.
While being transported to central booking, Miguel insisted on attempting to escape from the car. He convinced Kim to grab his bandana and set it on fire which distracted Officer Brown and forced him to lose control of the car. The car tumbled off to the side of the road and crashed. Kim was able to escape from the car, but she refused to leave Miguel. He insisted that she leave and so she ran into the woods. Kim was able to avoid being captured by the police helicopters.
As Kim ran through the woods, she trapped her foot in an animal trap. She assumed the worst and nightfall descened upon the forest. Not being able to see what was heading her way, Kim was relieved when a man came to her rescue. The man insisted on taking her to the ranger's station, but Kim refused. The man decided to take her back to his home, in order for Kim to get some shelter for the night.
Lonnie McRae took Kim to his cabin in the woods and she admitted to him that she knew about the imminent nuclear threat in Los Angeles. Lonnie took Kim to his basement, to show her his bomb shelter. When Kim discovered a number of weapons in Lonnie's basement, she became frightened and insisted on leaving. As Kim prepared to leave, McRae pretended that all the stations on his radio have gone static. He made Kim believe the nuclear bomb had gone off so he locked the two of them in his bomb shelter.
McRae told Kim that he wasn't able to hear any news, due to the nuclear radiation knocking out his radio frequency. When Kim insisted on calling her father, McRae refused for her to do so. Kim eventually got access to a television and realized that Lonnie had been lying to her. She brandished a knife and used it to get Lonnie to release her. Lonnie grabbed the knife from her and told her he only wanted company. He allowed Kim to leave his cabin, but he gave her a firearm and a flashlight in order for her to not run into any danger.
Kim walked on the side of the highway and a male driver stopped to give her a lift. Kim became aware the driver wanted something more and she took out her gun and fires at the driver's vehicle. The guy drove off and Kim later got a ride from a woman named Anna. She was very kind to Kim and let Kim use her cell phone to get into contact with her father. Kim called CTU and Tony patched her through to Jack, who was on an airplane.
Jack explained to his daughter that he was on a suicide mission. He was going to fly the nuclear bomb out of the city and have it detonate in the Mojave Desert, as it couldn't be disarmed. Kim was horrified over the prospect of losing her father, and she asked for Anna to pull over. Anna stopped the car and Kim got out, then she headed towards the woods. From the forest, Kim saw the glare from the nuclear explosion and is saddened over her father's death.
After she saw the explosion, Kim headed to a convenience store which had just closed for the night. So she used the outside payphone instead but all the lines were jammed from the explosion. The store owner stepped out of the store and asked Kim what she was doing, to which she replied that she needed to use the toilet. He allowed her to enter the store. A few minutes later a man demanded to be let into the store to get some supplies but the owner, Frank Davies, refused to do so. The man, Ramon Garcia, broke the glass window and he grabbed Frank's throat. After she realized people were starting to get paranoid from the explosion and Frank could get hurt, Kim fired her gun in the air and demanded for Garcia to release the owner.
When Garcia began to walk towards Kim, she was unable to shoot him and he grabbed the gun from her. Garcia accidentally shot Frank and the cops arrived. With no other options, Garcia took Kim hostage as she tried to tend to Frank's wounds. Despite her best efforts to save his life, Frank died and Garcia would be charged with murder. Garcia refused to let Kim go until his pregnant wife Lucia was taken out of the city. Kim managed to slip out through the back door and the police raided the store. She was horrified when she heared gun shots inside the store, as she did not wish Garcia to be harmed.
After being questioned about the hostage situation by the police, Kim admitted that she is a suspect in a murder case and escaped from the police a few hours earlier. When Kim arrived at the police station, she was informed that someone had witnessed Gary murdering Carla and that charges against her and Miguel had been dropped. Kim called CTU and spoke with Tony, who revealed to her that her father was still alive. Kim was confused about how the bomb went off in the desert, and Tony revealed that George Mason had taken over as the pilot.
Kim then called Miguel and expressed her feelings to him about her father being alive, Megan being safe, and the charges against them being dropped. Miguel was very cold towards her and didn't show any respect. He broke up with her over the phone and Kim was devastated. Kim was clueless to the fact that Miguel only broke up with her because his leg had been amputated from the earlier car crash.
As the police drove Kim to the Matheson house, in order for her to pick up her things, Kim decided to call CTU. She asked to speak with her father and Tony patched her through. Kim told Jack that she loved and missed him, and wanted to be a family again. Jack told her that they would soon see each other, but he had to finish the nuclear threat investigation. Kim then arrived at the Matheson home and she asked for the police officer to wait outside, while she packed her belongings.
Unbeknowst to Kim and the police officer, Gary was outside the house, so that he could gather items in order for him to flee the country and skip the murder charges. When he saw the cop, Gary assumed he was there to arrest him and Gary killed him. Gary grabbed the officers gun and his cell phone, and he made a phone call. When Kim called for the officer, Gary heard her and she discovered the officer's body. She hid in the attic, as Gary climbed up the stairs.
Gary came up to the attic with the intention of killing Kim, but she luckily was able to knock him out. She took his gun and cell phone, and she called CTU and asked for her father. Jack demanded that she shoot Gary twice, before he wakes up and was given the chance to kill her. Although she was terrified, Kim shot and killed Gary. An emotional wreck, Kim was told by her father that he would get someone to pick her up.
When Kate Warner arrived at the Matheson home, Kim drew her weapon. Kate proved that Jack sent her and that he trusts her so Kim allows Kate to take her back to CTU. While in the car, Kim questioned Kate on her relationship with Jack. Kate revealed that they only met the previous day and barely knew each other. Kim revealed that all she wanted was to see her father happy.
After Kim arrived at CTU with Kate, she was informed by Tony that Jack was unreachable, as he was performing an operation in the field. Kim arrived at the colusseum where Jack was being taken to hospital. Kim ran over to Jack and told him how much she loved him. He assured Kim that everything would be all right.
[edit] The Game
Kim started her internship for CTU Los Angeles during the time of the attempted assassination of Vice President Prescott. Tony Almeida and Michelle Dessler were reluctant to allow her to stay during a time of crises, but analyst Sean Walker took her on to the tech wing. Tony and Michelle's apprehension proved accurate when Peter Madsen and a large number of thugs took over CTU while the field agents were preoccupied with a false nerve gas attack.
Michelle escorted Kim to room M3, which served as a panic room during the event of a hostile takeover. After Jack and Tony arrived back at CTU's perimeter, Tony told Kim to encrypt the data files on the undercover CTU agents. Although Jack objected, Tony guided Kim through evading the guards and encrypting the files.
Sean was killed despite Kim's efforts. To save Michelle, Kim turned herself in, but not before planting one tracking device on the hard drive and another on herself. Madsen and Joseph Sin-Chung took Kim hostage when CTU tactical teams stormed the building to regain their base. After Jack destroyed Madsen and Sin-Chung's helicopter, Madsen used Kim as a human shield. Sin-Chung's Plan B was called in, and the driver extracting them was none other than undercover CTU operative Chase Edmunds.
Kim was taken to the abandoned water facility in Burbank, where Madsen used her as a bargaining chip. While Jack focused on finding Kim, Chase broke his cover to tell Kim to warn CTU. Kim had difficulty trusting Chase, but Chase gave her the model number of a technological item stolen from a laboratory. Under the guise of having to use the bathroom, with Chase covering for her, Kim snuck away and called CTU, exposing Madsen's plan to create artificial earthquakes.
An hour after the call, Jack rescued Kim and directed Chase to stay undercover to recover the hard drive. Jack and Kim blasted their way out of Madsen's base and drove back to CTU. Kim stayed in Jack's office for the rest of the day in order to keep her safe from further harm.
[edit] Day 3
After the events in Day 2 and The Game, Kim obtained a GED and an A.A. in Computer Programming from Santa Monica College. Kim earned a job as an analyst at CTU Los Angeles, due partially to her father. Throughout Day 3, Kim was constantly put down by Adam Kaufman and Chloe O'Brian, as they felt she didn't earn her position fairly.
During the events of the day, CTU became aware that terrorists would release the Cordilla Virus if Ramon Salazar wasn't released from prison. After Jack and Chase Edmunds arrived at CTU, Kim confronted Chase and told her she wanted to tell her father about their relationship. Chase didn't believe her father could accept it easily, so he decided he would be the one to tell Jack. When Kim felt that Chase's career would suffer if he told Jack, she decided she would be the one to break the news.
Kim went to her father and she told him about her relationship with her father. Jack didn't like the fact his daughter was dating a field agent, as he felt field agents could never have a family life. Jack and Chase then left to visit Salazar in prison, and Kim confronted Michelle Dessler. Kim asked Michelle if being married to Tony caused problems in their work life, and Michelle advised Kim to keep her and Chase's private life between them.
When Chase came back to CTU, Kim was confused about why he wasn't with her father in the field. Chase felt that Jack was putting him on the sidelines because of his relationship with Kim. Kim confronted Chase and told him that her father will accept it over time. She hinted that it may be best for them to spend some time apart but Chase refused to consider that option. After Tony was shot in the neck, Kim saw Michelle's torment over him and she realized why Jack didn't approve of her relationship with Chase. Chase later decided to interrogate Salazar himself and Kim suggested for him to clear it with Michelle, but he didn't. Jack then called her and asked Kim to run a prison transfer for Salazar. After Kim completed the task, Jack told her he loved her and apologized for his earlier reaction.
While looking through traffic cameras, Kim spotted suspect Kyle Singer being held at gunpoint. Kim was able to identify the license plate of the vehicle he was placed in. She then learned that Jack used her to break protocol in getting Salazar out of prison. When Kim's system went down, Gael Ortega claimed it was a surge error, and Kim became suspicious. Kim questioned Adam and Chloe about her system, and discovered Chloe looking through Jack's office.
When Kim asked why Chloe was in Jack's office, Chloe admitted that she found heroin in Jack's garbage bin. Kim became visibly upset and she confronted Michelle about her father's drug use. Kim became relieved when Michelle told her no official charges would be pressed, but she became upset when she learned that her father's helicopter might be shot out of the sky. When Michelle and Ryan Chappelle questioned Kim on her feelings getting in the way of her work, Kim convinced them that she could handle it. When Jack landed the helicopter and escaped with Salazar on foot, Kim was informed her father would likely not be harmed.
Kim was reassigned to the IT room, where Gael had been working. When Gael left the room, Kim discovered a video feed of her father being knocked out and dragged onto a plane. When Kim tried to notify someone about it, Gael locked her in the room and threatened to shoot her. Gael taped Kim's mouth shut with duct tape and restrained her to a chair. When Gael was forced to go to a briefing in the Bullpen, he monitored Kim through a handheld device. However, Adam overrided the room's access code and found Kim.
After Adam untied Kim, she warned him about Gael. Michelle then initiated a lockdown. Though he attempted to escape, Gael was forced to surrender when he was cornered. Adam and Kim worked on back tracing a call between Gael and Hector Salazar, but they were too late. When Chase called Kim, she warned him that Ryan Chappelle wanted him back at CTU. When Kim told him about Jack being kidnapped and brought to the Salazars, Chase told her he would find her father and to not tell Chappelle he was headed towards Mexico.
When Tony came back to CTU, he revealed that Gael was working with him and Jack on a covert operation to obtain the virus, and he wasn't a mole. Kim told Tony that Chase went dark and Tony believed it could blow Jack's cover. Tony contacted Mexican Intelligence Agent Rafael Gutierrez, in order for Chase to learn about the covert operation. However, gunfire was heard and Kim assumed the worst for her lover. Kim later noticed that Tony was forgetful and was making mistakes. She brought this to Michelle, who in turn informed Chappelle about it. After Chappelle talked to Tony, it became apparent that it was a misunderstanding and Kim was mistaken.
Kim was relieved when Tony tells her that both Jack and Chase were alive and well, and Jack was still undercover with the Salazars. However, Tony concealed the fact that Jack and the Salazars were forced to work with Nina Myers, the woman who killed Kim's mother. When Kim learned her father was forced to work with Nina, she became upset and begged Tony to have Nina prosecuted for her crimes after the crisis was resolved. Tony promised Kim that he would do everything in his power to make Nina pay, but it was likely she'll get off with immunity.
When Chloe brought her baby Angela into CTU, she asked for Kim to watch her and Kim freaked out when the baby began to cry. When Chappelle needed Chloe to get back on task, Kim was stuck with babysitting duties. Kim discovered that Chloe didn't have a child, she confronted her about it. Chloe claimed it was her boyfriend's baby and the mother was abusing Angela. Kim later confronted Tony about it and claimed Chloe was delusional. Tony told Kim to handle the issue herself, as Chloe was the only one who could track Chase by audio. He told her that he would deal with the baby issue once the virus was secured.
When Kim checked to see if any Child Services reports were made, she realized Chloe had lied to her. Chappelle placed Chloe under arrest and asked her who the father was. Chloe refused and Chappelle threatened to have DNA tests on the baby. After Chloe was released, in order to stop the worm from feeding inside the CTU server, she told Ryan who the father was and charges were dropped. When Kim asked who Angela's father was, she became shocked when Chloe told her it was Chase.
When Jack and Chase arrived at CTU, Kim was disturbed to see Nina escorted into the building. Kim questioned Jack on why he didn't come to her with his drug addiction, and he told her he wanted to quiet on his own terms. After ignoring Chase, Kim eventually confronted him about Angela. Chase admitted he recently found out he had a daughter and his sister and Chloe have been helping him take care of her. Though Kim was conflicted over the baby issue, she told Chase she would stand by him and help raise Angela.
When Kim heard the CTU alarm go off, she headed down the stairs and noticed a guard was down. Nina attempted to escape from the building and Kim drew her gun, threatening to shoot her. Kim had a hard-time firing at Nina, and Nina prepared to shoot her. Jack arrived and hit Nina in the shoulder; he then asked for Kim to leave the room. When Jack realized Nina was no longer any use to him, he killed her in cold blood.
After the shooting, Kim began to wonder if her father killed Nina in self-defense or if he killed her to avenge her mother's death. When Kim questioned Jack on his motives, he assured her he was only protecting her from any further harm. Jack and Chase then left the building to track down Michael Amador. After taking Amador into custody, they placed a tracking device on him and let him escape.
Kim tracked Amador's movement and lead Jack to him. Amador entered a car, but the car ended up self-destructing. Tony then learned that the people infected by the virus in the Chandler Plaza Hotel will most likely not survive. Among the people in the hotel were Michelle and Gael. After Tony realized he may never see his wife again, Kim attempted to comfort him. Kim later helped Chloe decrypt the bank accounts of Stephen Saunders, so they could find his location. Chappelle transferred his workload to them, as he was executed by Jack, under the orders of President David Palmer.
When CTU learned that Saunders had a daughter named Jane, they decided to grab her and replace her with an agent, so Saunders' men don't notice any changes. When the closest match to Saunders was at CTU San Francisco, Tony had to settle for Kim serving as the double. According to Tony they are the same age (19) and similar body types. Kim accepted the mission, but Jack refused to allow her to be on the field. After talking to her and Tony, Jack reluctantly agreed to allow Kim to accept the mission. To make sure she was safe Jack gave her a gun.
Jack and Kim met with Rachel Forrester at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Jack instructed Kim that when it came to field operations, he was in charge and she must follow his orders. After Jane was grabbed out of the bathroom, Kim went in as her replacement. While trying to help a customer find a book, Kim was grabbed by a man and he took her out of the library.
After Kim realized her life was in danger, she used her firearm to shoot the hostile. Jack arrived on the scene and told her to move away. Kim was shaken up, as she had just killed a man. Jack asked her to transport Jane back to CTU, and Kim agreed. Jane was confused on why she was being brought to Los Angeles, as the alert level there was high. Kim assured Jane that they would be safe once they arrived at CTU.
Once Kim arrived at CTU, she spoke to Tony about the earlier incident and he told her Division would want to question her about the shooting. Kim also congratulated on Tony about Michelle not being infected by the virus. She then learned that Stephen Saunders managed to escape from CTU's perimiter. When Jack told her there might have been a mole inside CTU, he told her she was the only one he could trust. Kim later discovered that Chloe was inactive on her system, and Jack believed she was the mole. After breaking into Tech 1, Jack learned that Tony had locked Chloe in there. Jack was informed that Saunders was using Michelle as leverage to get his daughter back.
Kim later confronted Chase and told him she could consider being a family with him and Angela if he transfered out of field operations. Chase told her he would think about it and Chloe chided Kim for thinking that Chase could change for her. When Theresa Ortega arrived at CTU, to gather Gael's belongings, Michelle asked for Kim to watch her.
When Chloe needed help in the field operations office, Kim was reassigned and Theresa found a gun. She blamed him for her husband's death and as she was being escorted out of the building, Theresa drew her weapon and shot and killed Saunders. Due to Saunders death, CTU wasn't able to identify the courier at the subway.
When Chase's hand was cut off, in order for the virus to be released in a contained area, Kim became worried. She reunited with her father at the hospital and was grateful that Chase would be all right and his hand will be reattached. When Kim told Jack about her and Chase moving away together and leaving CTU, she was worried he would be disappointed. Instead, Jack was happy for his daughter and told her he was proud of her.
[edit] After Day 3
After the events of Day 3, Kim and Chase decided to leave CTU Los Angeles. They moved to Valencia and Kim helped raise Chase's daughter Angela. Chase didn't return to field work and got a job at a private security firm. During the events of Day 4, Jack mentioned Kim was living with Chase and Angela.
When Jack was "killed" by Dale Spalding, Kim was horrified over the fact that both of her parents were dead. Kim became very depressed and Chase had a hard time dealing with her sudden change in her attitude on life. Eventually, Chase took his daughter and left Kim. Kim was devastated over losing Chase and she never found out where he fled off to.
Kim no longer wanted to live, as she didn't have anyone in her life. Kim started to see psychologist Barry Landes and he helped her cope with her father's death. If it wasn't for Barry, Kim would have likely committed suicide.
The doctor-patient relationship between Kim and Barry soon transformed into a romantic relationship, despite the fact Barry was old enough to be her father. The two eventually moved in together and by the time Day 5 started, they were planning on leaving town for a business trip.
[edit] Day 5
During the events of Day 5, Kim and Barry planned on leaving Los Angeles together, as Barry needed to go on a business trip. Before they left for the airport, Kim got a call from Audrey Raines, the lover of her father at the time of his death. Audrey asked if Kim could come to CTU Los Angeles and she reluctantly agreed. Initially Kim didn't want to go, as both her parents died there, but Barry convinced her to reconsider.
After they arrived at CTU, Kim and Barry were brought up to the field operations office. Barry helped Kim deal with being back at CTU, and Audrey came in. She asked if she could have a moment of privacy with Kim, but Kim insisted that Barry could stay. Audrey told Kim that she needed to tell her something about her father. Kim asked what this was about and Audrey revealed that her father was alive, and she just found out earlier in the morning.
Kim was shocked to know that her father was alive and even more so when she saw him in person. When Jack asked to speak to Kim alone, Barry refused to leave. After Kim convinced Barry it was all right, he left. Jack tried to explain to Kim that he didn't tell her he was alive in order to protect her, but Kim was furious with him. Kim told her father that she and Barry were leaving, but Jack was able to convince her to stay for a little longer.
While Kim waited to speak to her father again, CTU was put on lockdown and Bill Buchanan later called a Code 6, an evacuation procedure. While Audrey helped Kim and Barry out of CTU, they were stuck in the bullpen, as people began to die near the exits. Kim learned that Sentox nerve gas was released in the building. Kim and Barry were in one of the sealed rooms, the Situation Room, a secure area with Jack, Audrey, Chloe O'Brian, and a few other employees. Kim was horrified when she saw Edgar Stiles die, which caused Chloe to become emotional.
When Jack demanded for Chloe to go back to work, Barry decided to help Chloe deal with Edgar's death. When Jack accused Barry of taking advantage of his daughter, Kim stuck up for Barry and told Jack before she met him she no longer want to live. Chloe eventually went back to work and managed to get Jack to cool down. When she learned that the Sentox would eventually break through the seal, she told Jack they needed to access the air conditioning system, but couldn't because a program was interferring.
Jack decided to shut down the program by going out and holding his breath. Kim became worried for her father and she confronted Chloe. When Chloe asked if Kim wanted her to find Chase, Kim told her no. When Jack wasn't able to access the program, he came back and had Chloe patch him through to Lynn McGill. Lynn agreed to shut down the program and he served as a sacrifice, along with Harry Swinton.
Once the Sentox was flushed out of the building, Kim decided to leave CTU with Barry. When Jack asked her to stay, Kim told him that she still loved him, but couldn't stand to be around him, saying that death and chaos followed him and those around him wherever he went. Realizing that he would have to let her go, at least for the time being, Jack gave his daughter a kiss and he told Barry to take her far away from Los Angeles.
[edit] Memorable quotes
- Kim Bauer: So, is she still giving you the cold shoulder?
- Jack Bauer: If by "she" you're referring to your mother, I'd appreciate if you called her by her name: Mom. And no, she's just busy.
- Kim Bauer: She's busy a lot.
- Jack Bauer: And it's a school night for you, so time for bed.
- Krugman: Sit.
- Kim Bauer: My father is Jack Bauer.
- Krugman: (unimpressed): Sit.
- Kim Bauer: I'm happy that you're alive, I am. But I can't give you what you want right now.
- Melanie: You're daddy's little girl. You get everything handed to you.
- Kim Bauer: Shut up. I have been listening to this crap all day, about how I get everything I want, how my life is so great, and everybody else's life sucks. Well you wanna know something? You don't know anything about me! Last night, I was kidnapped, tied up in the back of a trunk, and then I got to see your friend Dan get shot in the head. You take all the bad luck you've had in your entire life; it wouldn't fit into half of what's happened to me in the past 24 hours. So messing me up may not be as easy as you think. But if you wanna try, bring it on. Here, outside, anyplace you like.
