[edit] Before Day 2

There was a suicide bombing in the West Bank which occurred on a Valentine's Day prior to Day 2, during which 13 people died and 26 were injured. Two days before Day 2, the NSA learned that the apparent suicide bomber, Faheen, was still alive (another terrorist had carried out the attack). With the Western world thinking he was dead, he had been operating in secrecy.

Faheen was fortuitously caught in photographs with Jason Park who was under surveillance by the NSA. It was determined that both men were involved in the planning level of the nuclear strike on Los Angeles. Also, several weeks before Day 1, Faheen hired Nina Myers through an intermediary to provide CTU Los Angeles secrets to Joseph Wald.

[edit] Day 2

After Joseph Wald gave up Nina Myers and killed himself, CTU and FBI agents forced Nina to assist in the capture of Faheen, her own contact. He embraced Nina but she knocked him out; the other terrorists in his store (including the store clerk) were shot during the subsequent raid.

Afterward, Nina tried to press him for information on a government plane. Nina told him that U.S. Special Forces had kidnapped his family, and that she was the only one who could save them. When he broke and told her everything he knew, she slit his throat with a shattered gift card she had picked up earlier, so that she would be the sole source of the information, and therefore not expendable. She did this to keep from being killed by Jack Bauer.
