Kanar was the Campaign Manager for Keeler, who incorrectly advised him to attack David Palmer for leaving during the presidential debates in order to attend to the threat of the Cordilla virus. He also informed Keeler that Sherry Palmer was there to see him, but was asked to step out of the room.

In Day 4, Kanar had been appointed in the government by Keeler. He was seen talking to President Keeler by video conference about Secretary of Defense Heller's kidnapping. Mark told the President that all the codes and protocols that the Secretary had access to had been changed.
