Matt Doehring was a famous German environmental activist and husband of Kristen Doehring. More than two years before the events of Midnight Sun, he headed Global Peace for a Cleaner Environment. The German authorities issued a warrant for his arrest after an incident involving a sewage treatment plant, but he disappeared and was last seen in public at a convention in Toronto a few weeks after the incident.

Doehring was killed some months before the events of Midnight Sun and his body left in a cabin in a remote area of Montana. Around 9:45am, Montana State Police informed CTU Fairbanks agent Carey Devlin that they had found the body.
