Mbongeni Nomkonwana played Desmond in 24: Redemption.

Biography and career[]

Nomkonwana started performing, writing, and directing at Sophumelela Theatre Group. In 2007, he earned a Performing Arts Certificate from New Africa Theatre Academy. He has directed four plays for them. He also performed at the former Vocadom Funny Festival.

Aside of his work on 24: Redemption, Nomkonwana's only other international acting credit is in the TV film Kongo. From 2010 to 2011, he did children's theater with Arepp Theatre for Life touring the Eastern Cape, and then worked for Okuhle Media Doing educational school roadshows.

Nomkonwana is currently focusing on his career as a poet. He won the Cape Town DFL LOVER+ ANOTHER poetry challenge, and has performed at Off the Wall poetry sessions, Inzync Poetry by Stellenbosch University, 2012 HEAIDS Conference at UCT, Jam That Session, and Last Poet's: Rhythm Poetry1, among others. He also co-founded Lingua Franca, a Cape Town-based poetry and music movement.
