Michaels was part of the TAC team that went with Jack Bauer, Tony Almeida, and Lee Castle to a hospital where terrorist Navi Araz was hiding. With CTU, Dina Araz called her husband from a stairwell to distract him. Navi became aware that he was being tricked, but Jack subdued him. Tony ran to help and left Dina in the stairwell with Michaels.
He was later part of the team that infiltrated Habib Marwan's warehouse as he prepared to initiate the launch of a missile carrying a nuclear warhead. Michaels took out an outside sentry with a sniper rifle before the team entered the building.

Terrorists Polakov and Komar released Sentox VX nerve gas at the Sunrise Hills Shopping Mall on orders from Ivan Erwich. As the shoppers evacuated, Jack Bauer and Curtis Manning went to pursue Polakov as he fled to meet up with Erwich. Before leaving at 2:48pm, Curtis ordered Agent Michaels to take charge of the rescue and evacuation efforts at the shopping mall, and report directly to Bill Buchanan.

Michaels was part of the TAC team taking orders from field agents Curtis Manning and Collier. At Newhall in Santa Clarita, he and other CTU field agents tried to apprehend Masheer Abu-Marzuq, a terrorist working for Abu Fayed. When Masheer heard one of the agents make a slight sound on top of the storage unit where he was retrieving supplies, he opened fire and eventually committed suicide with a grenade to avoid apprehension.
