On January 14th before Day 1, Jack Bauer and Nina Myers took a weekend trip there, an event that was later used by Nina as proof that she could not have programmed the keycard with intel on David Palmer.

Megan Matheson's aunt Emily lived in Santa Barbara. After the highway patrol found Carla's body in Gary Matheson's trunk and arrested Kim Bauer and her boyfrined Miguel, Emily came to the station to pick Megan up and take her home. Kim was relieved to know that Megan would be safe if the nuclear bomb was detonated in Los Angeles.

Jack and Kim Bauer went to UC Santa Barbara to conduct an undercover operation to take Jane Saunders into custody.
