Senator David Palmer held a breakfast rally at the power plant on the morning of Day 1. The top labor leaders in California were in attendance. Palmer's agenda included coming out with the truth about his son Keith's involvment in the accidental death of Lyle Gibson. The assassin Jonathan Matijevich attempted to shoot Palmer during his speech. Jack Bauer, who was being forced by Ira Gaines to take the fall for the assassination, went for the gun of Secret Service agent Alan Hayes before Jonathan could pull the trigger. The distraction resulted in Palmer being evacuated safely from the building and Jack being arrested. Jack was questioned by Agent Frank Simes before managing to escape custody and flee.

- The plant is consistently called "San Clarita" during the first season, however The House Special Subcommittee's Findings at CTU correctly calls it "Santa Clarita."
- The building shown as Santa Clarita Power Plant was later used as a reserve power plant on Day 4 11:00pm-12:00am (where Kelly Girard hid with the nuclear football), then used as the Wilshire Gas Company in Day 5 and finally as Boyd Chemical Plant on Day 7 2:00pm-3:00pm.
