Before Day 5 Edit
Before Day 5, White House Chief of Staff Walt Cummings contacted Schaeffer and asked him to leak some information to Dawn Brigade, a group of Russian separatists. Schaeffer informed their leaders of the location of a cache of weaponized nerve gas buried under Hangar BB at the Ontario Airport.
While terrorists planned the retrieval of the canisters out of the airport, Schaeffer was supposed to coordinate their transportation out of the US and into Central Asia. However, Schaeffer was under instructions from Walt Cummings to manipulate the triggering mechanism of the canisters as soon as he had a chance, so that the US could detonate them once they reached the terrorist home base in Russia. ("Day 5: 12:00pm-1:00pm")
Day 5 Edit
At around 11:06, Ivan Erwich and his team of terrorists met with Schaeffer at an empty lot. As Erwich's crew transferred the 20 canisters of Sentox nerve gas from their van to a semi-truck, Erwich informed Schaeffer that he had found the Sentox right where he had claimed it would be. Schaeffer then told Erwich that the customs papers were being finished and would be ready by the time they reached port. ("Day 5: 11:00am-12:00pm")
Schaeffer, following the orders set by Cummings, tampered with the canisters to allow the American conspirators to disperse the gas by satellite once it had reached the terrorist base. As he came out of the container, he stumbled upon Erwich, who asked him what he was doing. Schaeffer told him he was making sure the canisters were secured. He then gave Erwich the detonators, the arming codes, and some custom papers. Schaeffer then requested his payment, but Erwich reminded him that their deal was for him to receive it once the shipment left the port.
However, Erwich became suspicious of Schaeffer. When he discovered that he had tampered with the detonators, he and his men tortured and killed him. They then left his body in the same container where the canisters were. Just before 1:00pm, a CBP task force led by Agent Finn found Schaeffer's body. ("Day 5: 12:00pm-1:00pm")
Background information and notesEdit
- Schaeffer's mishandling of his role in the Sentox nerve gas conspiracy served as a catalyst for the majority of the day; not only was he responsible for the overall failure of the plot, but had he succeeded in securing his cover, then the plot of Day 5 would be fundamentally different.
