Schaeffer was James Nathanson and Walt Cummings plant inside Ivan Erwich's operation to move Sentox nerve gas to central Asia.

When Erwich met Schaeffer, he confirmed that he found the Sentox right where Schaeffer claimed it would be. Later, Erwich became suspicious of Schaeffer, and eventually killed him after discovering he was working against the terrorist operation and for the American conspirators, who had no intention of letting the separatists use the gas.
