SigSauer P228
From Wiki 24
The SigSauer P228 was a gun used by Jack Bauer up to and including Day 2. Agent Aaron Pierce also used this weapon during Day 5 to rescue Wayne Palmer from the woods and to protect the Suvarov's motorcade from its attackers. During Day 6, the arms dealer Darren McCarthy used a two-tone P228 during the kidnapping of Morris O'Brian, and was later shot with this weapon by his girlfriend Rita Brady.
With a bullet in the chamber, the maximum ammo capacity of the P228 was thirteen rounds.
[edit] Background information and notes
- Jack Bauer's two-tone P228 had a nickel-plated slide, trigger, hammer, takedown catch, magazine release, de-cocking lever and slide release. While the factory magazine capacity of the P228 is thirteen rounds, aftermarket fifteen-round magazines are also available. The Sig P228 is available in 9mm Parabellum (Luger) only.
- During Day 1 and Day 2, Jack is actually using a P229 in some close-ups. The P229 is visually identical to the P228 with the exception of the grip serrations on the side of the slide, which only extend halfway up the slide on the P229. The P229 is available in 9mm Para (Luger), .40 S&W and .357 SIG calibers.
- In reality, the maximum capacity of the Sig P228 is fourteen rounds, when using the factory 13-round magazines and one in the chamber. This practice is frowned upon by some law enforcement officers however, as 'topped off' magazines can sometimes lead to feed errors or jams. Many law-enforcement and military officers instead choose to carry two magazines loaded with 12 rounds each.
- Until recently in the U.S., the European standard 13-round magazines were banned, and were replaced by lower capacity 10-round magazines to comply with U.S. Federal law. The 13 and 15-round magazines were available for law enforcement use only in the U.S.
- The P228 is used by genuine U.S. Secret Service and Diplomatic Security Service agents. The U.S. military's designation for the Sig Sauer P228 handgun is the M11. The P228 is also used by British special forces such as the SAS and SBS. Its U.K. military designation is the L107A1.
- P228 magazines are "drop free," meaning that they drop from the weapon when the magazine release is pressed.
