Agent Smith responded with Curtis Manning, Agent Jones, and a team of other field operatives to the Ontario Airport when it was seized by Anton Beresch and his group of Dawn Brigade terrorists. He was seen with Curtis during the planning of the rescue team's entry into the airport, and participated in the raid during which the terrorists (among them Anton Beresch, his lieutenant, Vlad, Ishmael, and Ivan) were killed, and helped rescue Jack Bauer and the numerous civilian hostages including Meghan, her young son, and Derek Huxley. Jack asked Agent Smith to take Derek to his mother, Diane. After they were reunited, Smith informed them that they would be taken to CTU Los Angeles.
Agent Smith also appeared with Curtis during the hospital search for terrorist Viktor Grigorin.
