Janis Gold led Sullivan into the room where Jonas Hodges was being held. Sullivan brought with his a dossier of important documentation essential to Hodges' witness protection, including his new name: Robert Tippet. Hodges argued with Sullivan, but Sullivan simply told Hodges to be ready to move out to Andrews Air Force Base in half an hour.
While Sullivan and an FBI police officer signed papers to authorize the transfer, the vehicle where Hodges remained seated exploded. Sullivan survived and spoke with several investigators at the scene shortly before 5am to give a report.
