"I always get a bit nervous about target confusion, and I'd hate to see one of the good guys go down by mistake."
- — Teddy Hanlin, "Day 1: 5:00pm-6:00pm"
Hanlin was assigned as Bauer's backup during an operation to capture a suspect. Both Bauer and Nina Myers were deeply disturbed to learn this, but the assignment had been made by Division and it was already too late. Hanlin later taunted Jack by telling him of how Campbell's wife killed herself. As he repeatedly harassed Jack, Myers called George Mason to try keep him in line. Later, as the suspect, Alan Morgan, made an escape, Bauer ordered Hanlin not to engage, but Hanlin ignored orders. He shot in the leg, making him fall to his death over a banister. ("Day 1: 5:00pm-6:00pm")
Bauer would later learn from the House Special Subcommittee that Hanlin was directly assigned to the mission by Alberta Green and Ryan Chappelle as a means of expressing their irritation at Bauer's being reinstated at CTU. After the events of the day, Hanlin was promoted. (Findings at CTU)
Background information and notes Edit
- Jon Cassar listed Teddy Hanlin as a character that could 'potentially return' along with Carl Webb, Alexander Trepkos, Lynne Kresge, and Behrooz Araz in a Feb. 12, 2007 TV Guide interview with Bill Hochman. Ultimately, none of these characters reappeared.
- Kirk Baltz is credited for "Day 1: 6:00pm-7:00pm", but has no dialogue and only appears briefly out of focus, talking to George Mason.
