The United States of America, also referred to as the United States, the U.S., the U.S.A. and America, is a democratic nation. It shares land borders with Mexico and Canada. Its capital city is Washington. The United States Congress, its primary lawmaking body, is based there, as is the President.

The country has been the target of many terrorists and, although most terrorist attempts have been stopped, there have been several successful attacks such as nuclear weapon detonations, the Cordilla Virus release, the abduction of Secretary of Defense James Heller, the meltdown of a nuclear power station, the destruction of Air Force One, and the assassination of Former President David Palmer.

All these events have led to tough security measures across the country and the creation of several organizations such as the Counter Terrorist Unit.

With the exception of brief interludes in Malaysia, South Korea, and Mexico, every episode of 24 is set in the United States. States seen on 24 include California, Louisiana, Oregon, and Iowa. The capital Washington, DC is also heavily featured.
