The auditorium at USC was chosen as the location of one of the televised Presidential debates between President David Palmer and Senator John Keeler at 5:00pm PST (8:00pm EST) on Day 3. President Palmer arrived at the university earlier in the afternoon, and held a practice debate session with his brother, Chief of Staff Wayne Palmer, and an assistant. Palmer also managed the Cordilla virus crisis from the campus for most of the afternoon, convening via video conference with CTU Los Angeles and National Health Services as they attempted to locate the source of the virus. ("Day 3: 1:00pm-2:00pm")
During the televised debate, Palmer was forced to withdraw after Wayne told him that Jack Bauer had broken Ramon Salazar out of prison to return him to Mexico and supposedly stop the Salazars from releasing the virus in Los Angeles. At the time, viewers had no idea there was a terrorist threat, and Senator Keeler attempted to use the situation to discredit the President. When the crisis became public news the next morning, Keeler's plan backfired.
