[edit] Every Episode Characters

  • Who were all the people who have been in every episode of at least one season? I am sure other people would find that very interesting. - Guest: Marie Frost
  • I agree, all I know is Kate Warner in Season 2 and Jack. - Guest: Fran Remaro
  • Name it like, Every Episode Characters - Guest: Jody Xavier
Mounds of problems, including:
  1. The title doesn't fit with our naming convention.
  2. The article doesn't follow it's own title, by including exceptions.
  3. "Very important" is subjective.
  4. This is non-encyclopedic trivia.
  5. Three people with the same IP are having a conversation? Right.
--Proudhug 18:18, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Proudhug, if it's trivia, why did you delete it from the trivia sections of the character pages? I added the information from the deleted page to Main Characters.
I don't remember what exactly I deleted that you're referring to, but someone appearing in all but two episodes doesn't really come across as noteworthy. It's no different than saying so-and-so was in all but five episodes, all but seventeen episodes, or all but twenty-three episodes. I can maybe see "all but one" being noteworthy, but certainly not any more than that. --Proudhug 15:41, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
That would be the edits you recently reverted on Kate Warner, Chase Edmunds, and Teri Bauer. As for Every Episode Characters, there was useful information on that page. You could at least read what you're deleting before you reject it wholesale. --StBacchus 16:27, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the links. What I was doing there was deleting the Kate Warner stuff. Saying she's one of three characters to appear in every episode of only one season, but not really because she was also in another season for a few seconds is just as pointless as saying that so-and-so was in all but seventeen episodes of a season. It's making a statement and then contradicting it. Kinda like saying "Bill Jones is one of only three actors over 400 lbs. Except he's only 390 lbs." A line needs to be drawn as to what's worth noting and what's not.
As for the "Every Episode Characters" page, I stated five reasons off the top of my head why it was deleted, so clearly I read the page. There was no useful information on that page that couldn't be easily found at several other locations on Wiki 24. --Proudhug 16:49, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

The given reasons are poorly thought out and easily refuted, and you didn't address the Chase Edmunds or Teri Bauer pages. But onward: this is not so much about individual page edits as about your attitude and behavior.

You would rather just delete something or declare an idea unworkable than correct it or come up with an alternative. That is unhelpful, disrespectful, and more than a little frustrating. I'm sick of batting cleanup just because you can't be bothered to do any work. Is this making sense? Maybe you'd understand if you ever contributed anything yourself.

Also, stop saying "non-encyclopedic" like that means something. Like saying "it doesn't belong here," it's entirely subjective and worthless as justification. --StBacchus 04:09, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

This isn't really the place to argue. (Continued on StBacchus' talk page) --Proudhug 04:44, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Anonymous, you don't have to create demand for an article, just make sure it conforms to our policy and style guidelines. Also, please check to make sure we don't already have that article. --StBacchus 15:26, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Opposites

  • Hey! We should have an Opposites page!! Like post what characters in 24 are most opposite, like, Nina Myers and Charles Logan . I'd love to see them in a room together.- Guest, Brandine Nickerson, 19:00 November 2, 2006.
I created that Opposites page you wanted Brandine. Tell me if you like it. I even used your example with Nina and Charles. - User:Maya11
This is the kind of thing that would be perfect on our forum! Check out the CTU Com Line. It's also linked under "Community" on the left-hand side of the page. --StBacchus 02:41, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
I deleted the Opposites page as there's nothing encylopedic about it. --Proudhug 14:55, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Jack Bauer Effect

just like the famous "Stormtrooper effect", we DO need to analize the Jack Bauer effect. this would comprehend, from how does his "mental" and "physical" abilities range on the different days; onto ranging the best methods to put the implacable Bauer down,. and possibly dead (the dream of many burocrats)

just let me know!!!

--CharlesWiki 05:31, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm not 100% sure what you're talking about, but we have things called "analysis" (they aren't, strictly, but this would be), so I could see where this would fit in. Anybody? --StBacchus 11:48, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
well I mean lloking at the super-anti-terrorist chap, what are the most interesting things taht we can observe from him, like his physical prowness and mental agilities. how does this affect him in the different days. And most interesting, what about killing Jack?, it was stated in the wikipedia article that if he was killed the show ends, but since that's not gonna happen for now, I was thinking on that, having observed that in season 5, the various tasers on Jack seemed to stop him cold. Of course, this and the former themes are open to all to make discussions and arrive to a consensus. CharlesWiki 05:27, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I still don't understand. I have no idea what the "famous Stormtrooper effect" refers to.... and I have no clue about what kind of page you're looking for here. The Jack Bauer Effect? You want to discuss his physical prowess and the best methods for eliminating him (and how his death would play out/effect the show)?
This is an encyclopedia for 24. We're trying to keep it just facts.... no speculation or opinion. There are dozens of discussion boards online for those kinds of things. -Kapoli 05:42, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure he must be talking about Stormtrooper effect, and alluding to the concept of the Character shield and somewhat to the concept of a Wedge-type character. It might be interesting to do it in a wikipedia style manner, but I'm not sure if a lot of the same concepts apply. - Xtreme680 06:33, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Villains

There should be a category page for all villans.

One of the things about 24 is the lack of true villians and heros. One person can be a hero one minute and a villian the next. No one is 'always right' and 'always wrong.' Is Sherry Palmer a villian? What about Mike Novick? The Salazars? There are too many gray areas, if you ask me. I don't think we should use the word villian on this site. - Willo
I agree with Willo. --Proudhug 02:33, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Willo, too. We have a category for the "Marwan terrorist cell"... maybe we could do something like "Salazars" or "Drazens" too. I don't really think it's totally necessary, but it could be done if that's what people want. -- Kapoli 02:50, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
How about a generic "Terrorists" category? That's more factual than opinion-based. Then the only question I would have is what to do with mercenaries like Mandy and Collette. --StBacchus 11 April 2006
How about making it a Terrorists/Mercenaries category with redirects for Terrorists and one for mercenaries, that go to Terrorists/Mercenaries.-CWY2190 00:40, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
I like that idea...although I don't know how the redirect would work. Is it too cumbersome to call it "Terrorists and Mercenaries"? Or too much of a cheat to just call it "Terrorists" and throw Collette and Mandy in there anyway? -StBacchus 09:36, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
So, would Ira Gaines be considered a mercenary?-CWY2190 05:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I would say so. He wasn't really a terrorist, since his goal wasn't to incite terror. Really, the Drazens weren't terrorists, either, they were just after revenge. -StBacchus 06:57, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Gaines was an assassin. --Proudhug 07:57, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
How so? He was never supposed to kill anyone himself. -StBacchus 18:38, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
I know. He wasn't used as an assassin by the Drazens, but prior to Day 1, he was known as an assassin. --Proudhug 20:53, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Previously on 24...

I know this is pretty weird, but it's for my benefit. I thought it might be interesting.--Conspiracy Unit 06:43, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Out of curiosity, why do you need to know this? --Proudhug 12:29, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't need to. I just want to. --Conspiracy Unit 02:37, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

I was just wondering your reason, because if it is a good one that other people might also have, then we should create the page. If not, I can probably make you a list, if you like. I just can't think of any reason why anyone would ever need one. --Proudhug 02:48, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

A list of each episode's previouslies or a just a list of everyone that's been mentioned? Either way, you should end up with a list of the most important events or people. --StBacchus 03:11, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I assume a list of the names that appear on the screen. I've never analyzed which names are chosen, but it seems to me it's pretty random. All the list would be would be whichever names they chose to highlight for each week. Sometimes it's a person, sometimes it's CTU, sometimes a major person doesn't have an on-screen name, despite getting clips. The only use I could see for this would be to verify spelling. --Proudhug 04:20, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Its a list, its trivia. Its fun. And like a list of all the previouslies. I could probably do it myself. I was just wondering if we should include it here for the sake of completeness. And who's to say that no one will never want to see it? It'd just be interesting, is all. If you guys don't want to then I'll drop it and move on. Also, Proudhug, its not that random; usually the most important person (or group) in a particular storyline will be named. And yes, I only think the names that appear beside the freezeframes at the beginning. Besides, why do you need a 'main characters' page, if not for the sake of completeness?--Conspiracy Unit 20:24, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

There was another guy here a while ago who put all those names in bold when he listed them on the episode pages. I assume because he thought it was important or interesting to note them. If you want to know this information (for whatever reason), it would be a huge hassle to find it unless there's a single list. I think it's a good idea. --StBacchus 22:54, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, I went through the first season and concluded that the freeze-frame cards on the previouslies don't hold any significance. Check out my findings. I don't think this is anything like the "Main characters" page, since it's not exactly a reference for anything factual or useful. But of course feel free to point out any significance or usefulness that I'm missing. :) --Proudhug 05:21, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I know, Proudhug, but I didn't mean like that. Just a list of the people, not why they're up, or when they're up. You don't think it'll be a good idea, don't have one. Just thought that it might possibly be interesting. Guess I'm wrong. :) --Conspiracy Unit 05:47, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

So literally just this? I hope you don't think I'm trying to be mean or anything, I'm just confused about how people might find this useful or interesting. If they do, there's certainly no rule or anything against including it on the site. I just personally find it weird and pointless. --Proudhug 06:05, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Okay then, forget it... just though it'd be cool thats all. Besides, you've got articles about other cinematic/stroytelling techniques...--Conspiracy Unit 06:27, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

You're original test thing I found interesting. That would be better than the second. Besides, Bacchus is right, if someone needs this info, for whatever reason, its all in one place. Better than scattered over 120 seperate pages, don't you think? --Conspiracy Unit 22:06, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Proudhug, I thought it was interesting too, although I disagree with some of your conclusions. For instance, I think they gave Jamey and Janet cards after their deaths so people wouldn't wonder what happened to them. I'd be interested to see if that trend continues in later seasons, or if they just gave up reporting deaths. Besides, it would be a shame to waste all your hard work! --StBacchus 22:34, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Proudhug, the main point of this is not to bitch about how it works and how it doesn't. It's to have a list of all the previouslies...besides, you're only using the first season, when, basically, the show was trying to find its feet. Granted in other seasons there was been some idiocy in later seasons, such as when Sarah Gavin was being tortured and they put it up as Counter Terrorism Unit, not Sarah Gavin. Also, its not about them making sense, its about there being a list. There are plenty of lists on this site...--Conspiracy Unit 00:19, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
By all means, if you guys find this interesting, make a page for it. Obviously, what I did isn't appropriate since it's mostly subjective commentary, but I'm sure you can use it as groundwork. I only did it to see if the previouslies held any significance, which I decided wasn't true. I don't think this page would be any more significant than if someone created a page listing all the times Jack said the word "is", but that's just me. It's a factual list, but is there any use for it? Like I said, there's no rule against the idea, so knock yourself out.  :) --Proudhug 00:28, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

So is that a yes for a go ahead?--Conspiracy Unit 00:34, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Dude, this is a wiki! You're free to do whatever you want, as long as it's not against the community's rules. --Proudhug 00:50, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gadget Fetish..:looking for a gadget seen on 24 Day 5.....

Hi community,

Does someone know or can anyone tell me what type/model of phone was being used at CTU headquarters. I first noticed it on Lynn McGill's desk and it apeared to be a video/video caller id phone of some sort. Would really like to get my hands on one if possible.

JR....ijar69@hotmail.com

Why?

As a "technogeek", I think it would be great to see a "Technology spotted or used" section? I've noticed several times they seem to switch back and forth between Dell & HP monitors/computers. But, I've also seen other cool gadgets that I would like to know more about. Also, this could branch out into "Fiction" and "Non-Fiction" technology. Or real vs. fake.

-Technogeek

It would be cool to have someone create a page or pages about the gadgets seen on the show, real and otherwise. Feel free to start the project! --Proudhug 12:55, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Top 20 Deaths on 24

Hi community

I was reading the 24 magazine and I came across an article of the top 20 deaths on 24 I was wondering if I could make that a page. I don't really know how I would request a page so I put it here.

Ryan .... midgemaster2003@yahoo.com

That's a good idea, I second this motion.
